What is the HOBO Classic?
The Board of Directors of Llama Quest invites you to join us for the fifth annual Hobo Classic optional double-point ALSA show. Exhibitors will be able to designate double or single (point) and which judge(s) they wish to show under.
Because of the time of year and general weather conditions, this show will again be unique-NO CLEAN LLAMAS ARE ALLOWED. Llama Quest hereby sets forth the rules:
Llamas that are declared clean by the HOBO Cops will be sprinkled liberally with straw and will be sent to jail. There will be a $10 fine to get out of jail.
There will be a $5 fine for anyone caught bringing a blower onto the fairgrounds.
There will be a $5 fine for anyone caught with a brush, a comb, or a wand.
There will be various signs and posters declaring certain actions illegal. For example: It is illegal for a llama or alpaca to relieve itself in the show ring. A $1 fine will be levied to anyone violating the signs. It is recommended that each exhibitor bring along a supply of $1 bills unless jail time is desired.
There will be highly trained HOBO cops empowered with the right to levy fines as they see fit. Anyone refusing to pay his or her fines will go straight to jail.
Absolutely no show clothes are allowed. Youth wishing to participate in showmanship class are required by law to wear a hobo costume (llama costumes are optional in showmanship class but not in costume class). Judges have promised not to judge on cleanliness in any class (exhibitors may shower PLEASE). Accepted clothing is hobo costume, barn attire or business-grubby. Components for costumes may be purchased at the HOBO Town Thrift Shop and Yard Sale.
At the end of each class, the judges will choose the dirtiest llama. These llamas will compete at the end of the show for Grand and Reserve Champion "Pasture Magnet". A befitting prize will be awarded as well as a ribbon. This is an exercise in self-control for compulsive herd managers.
There will be no ranch displays at the stalls. If participants wish, they may have a 10x10 space on the indoor concourse (no pens and no llamas) for $35. Hobo themes are recommended but not required.
By popular request again this year there will be a maiden Obstacle class and a maiden Public Relations class on Friday evening to be preceded by costume classes for both youth and adults (all themes welcome). These classes are not point classes (neither single nor double). The cost of the maiden performance classes and the costume classes is $ 5 per entry. There will be ribbons to 5th place and a $100 first place prize for each of the above classes. Maiden classes are for llamas/alpacas that have never competed on a performance course. We encourage everyone who has never participated in performance classes to give it a try and have some fun.
The OTH ("Over the Hill") performance division, Performance Play Day (all day on Sunday), and the "Mother Hildegard Sunshine of the Rock Award" will also, by popular demand, be part of this year's activities.
The Championship Challenge Cup again offered this year is a non-ALSA class for individuals (adults or youth-new this year) whose llama/alpaca has won a Grand or Reserve Champion Performance title in either of the ALSA Novice, Open, Advanced, Senior/Intermediate/Junior Youth or the HOBO OTH divisions. There will be two courses laid out and each participant must run both courses. The points earned on both courses will be totaled to determine the placements. Two judges will be used and their respective score sheets will be cumulative (i.e., each participant's total score will consist of judge A's score on courses 1 & 2 added to judge B's score on courses 1 & 2). There will be ribbons to 5th place and a $500 first place prize.
The Performance Play Day will take place in the performance ring. There will be a $5 charge per llama/alpaca to use the course. Each participant may take their llama/alpaca through the course as many times as they desire. Experts in performance will be available and on-course to provide helpful hints and suggestions.
The "Mother Hildegard Sunshine of the Rock Award" will have similar ground rules to the LANA Youth Award but will be awarded to a deserving adult.
There is a new addition this year:
Suri Halter Classes-the Suri wool division will include classes for males and females in Junior, Yearling, Two Yr. Old and Adult age groups.
We invite you also to attend the HOBO HULLABALOO that will take place in HOBO JUNCTION immediately following the Saturday show schedule. There will be much fun and a camp-out style evening meal served from our soup kitchen.
Again this year we will have the HOBO Town Pawn Shop. All those wishing to participate should bring with them a "white elephant" item which they will pawn at the Pawn Shop and receive a claim check. During the Saturday night HOBO Hullabaloo you may use your pawn claim check to redeem any item of choice from the Pawn Shop. We reserve the right to make up rules as we go along. Come and have lots of fun with very little effort.
